Fire in La Habra Heights - November 23rd 2009

A fire started about 1:15 p.m. near the construction site on Hacienda Rd and spread uphill towards Panchoy.

City and County Fire Department personnel responded quickly and 3 Los Angeles County Fire Department Helicopters performed water drops. The steep terrain made water drops the most effective way to stop the advancing flames.

There are no fire hydrants on Hacienda Rd between Canada Sombre and Skyline Dr.

Fire personnel responded to the fire on all sides, including from behind the Heights Inn at the end of Panchoy Pl. Flames came dangerously close, but no structures were damaged. Fortunately, the flames remained relatively low and did not ignite the numerous Eucalyptus trees on the hillside.

Residents, at home and away, monitored the action on the Fire Watch internet radio which listens in on LHH Fire Dept, LHH Fire Watch, LA County Fire and Sheriff Dept

The fire was mostly extinguished by about 3:15 and crews worked until dark.

The source is under investigation.
